Attorney at Law/Certified Mediator
Ollena S. Bennett is a licensed attorney and certified mediator who has always had a passion for helping those in need. She has served as a role model, motivational speaker, tutor, and peer counselor over the years. Her passion to give a voice to those who otherwise would not be heard is what led her to pursue her legal education.
As a Georgia-born native, Ollena’s love for law goes back to grade-school where she realized that others naturally migrated to her in their time of need. So, it was no surprise that Ollena was later titled “Most Dependable” by her peers. She continues to offer guidance and comfort for those who reach out to her today.
Prior to attending law school, Ollena received a B.A. in Criminal Justice from The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) in Fort Valley, Georgia graduating with highest honors. While studying criminal law at FVSU, Ollena served as the President of the Criminal Justice club. When not studying, Ollena was an active and instrumental member of the local area Habitat for Humanity and served as the annual “Miss Habitat for Humanity.”
Ollena earned her Juris Doctor from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Georgia. While enrolled at Mercer Law, Ollena was an active member of the Association of Women Law Students, Older Wiser Law Students, and the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), some of the largest and most active organizations at Mercer Law. Ollena served on the Board of Directors of the Older Wiser Law Students organization offering extra support to those law students who were married, beginning their second career, or separated geographically from their families. Ollena served on BLSA’s Board of Directors as she was elected each year to serve as class representative in promoting and supporting the needs of minority students and all others in support of such, no matter the race or other classification of the student. Additionally, Ollena was the director of BLSA’s mentor-mentee program during her 3L year. While at Mercer Law, Ollena and her family actively supported Joshua’s Wish Foundation which offers support to families of children in Georgia who are battling cancer and raises awareness of the issues surrounding childhood cancer. Prior to her current role, Ollena acted as a legal intern for the Houston County District Attorney’s Office assisting in multiple areas of criminal law in both Superior Court and the Juvenile Justice Complex.
Ollena brings years of legal clerkship experience, the bulk of which she received after being chosen to serve as Judicial Clerk for the Houston County Superior Court Judges, including the Honorable George. F. Nunn, Jr., prior to his retirement from the bench. These invaluable experiences allow Ollena to have a greater understanding of how to handle the sensitive needs of all clients, especially in family law and criminal law matters.
When not advocating for others, Ollena enjoys attending church, baking a variety of desserts, crafting, and spending time with family and friends.
